Sitting around late at night
Talking about nothing much
And getting drunk and tired
That’s a thing I’ll look back on
When I’m thinking about all of the things that I’ve done
And wond’ring where are you all
And remembering somebody saying
LET’S HAVE ONE MORE DRINK, ONE MORE DRINK
ONE MORE DRINK AND THEN I’LL GO
I DON’T THINK IT’S SUCH A BAD THING
TO HAVE JUST ONE MORE DRINK
BEFORE I TAKE A WALK BACK HOME
And the landlord lets us buy another round
He’s laughing and joking saying haven’t you got homes to go to?
But we think this a place we would rather be
And don’t care much about the next day that we’ve got to get through
And staying and staying
And somebody saying
LET’S HAVE ONE MORE DRINK …
And standing around in the cold outside
Talking about nothing much
Beneath the moon and the stars
It seems like we want to be here all the time
And it seems like our homes are a million miles from this place
And then somebody’s saying
LET’S HAVE ONE MORE DRINK …
Recording: Track 12 Pockets On Fire
This was written about late drinks at the Globe Hotel in Warwick during the 80s and early 90s when the landlord would shut the pub and let us drink til late into the night after the legendary Monday night folk club. We never wanted to go home.
One time I even came back from a gig in Derby at about 1am and knocked on the window and was let into the late night drink…
